Monsters vs. Aliens

Reese Witherspoon, Rainn Wilson -- Ginormica (Reese Witherspoon), Dr. Cockroach (Hugh Laurie), B.O.B. (Seth Rogen) and The Missing Link (Will Arnett) do battle with the sinister Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson) to save the Earth's humans. I would rate it 4 of out 5 stars. (2009-PG)

The Hangover

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham -- Four friends go on a Las Vegas trip before one gets married. I think there is a lot of difference between old comedies (Animal House, Caddyshack, Fast Times at Rigemont High) and the new ones (Porky's, American Pie, Van Wilder). I like the old one's. I would rate it as 1 1/4 out of 5 stars. If you want to see a good movie about a wedding crisis, I would suggest "Very Bad Things" starring Christian Slater and Cameron Diaz. (2009-R)

The Open Road

Jeff Bridges, Kate Mara, Justin Timberlake -- A young man and his father journey across country to visit Mom in the hospital. Nice interaction between Jeff and Kate (the girlfriend). Justin Timberlake was flat. Boy band - yes, actor - no. Mary Steenburgen, Harry Dean Stanton, and Ted Danson in supporting roles. I'll give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. (2009-PG-13)

Nothing Like the Holidays

John Leguizmo, Debra Messing, Alfred Molina, Luis Guzman -- A tale about a Puerto Rican family home for the holidays. I would rate it a 4 out of 5 stars. (2008-PG-13)

Nothing but the Truth

Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, Angela Bassett, Alan Alda, Vera Farmiga, David Schwimmer, Noah Wyle, Courtney Vance -- I mention every one of the actors in this drama because every one of them did an extraordinary job. SEE THIS MOVIE! I haven't enjoyed a movie this much since "A Few Good Men". It is kind of like the Valerie Plame's case. I would rate it as 6 out of 5 stars. That's right, it's that good! (2008-R)

Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

Michael Douglas, Orlando Jones -- From "Disclosure" to here is quit a step down. The courtroom drama is preposterous. However, the last two minutes of it were good. I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars. (2009-PG-13)

My Life in Ruins

Nia Vardalos, Richard Dreyfuss, Rachel Dratch -- Thank God for Richard Dreyfuss. He was the only highlight of the movie. Bad. I would give it 2 out of 5 stars. (2009-PG-13)

Che (Part 1)

Benicio Del Toro, Demian Bichir, Catalina Sandino Moreno -- A Steven Soderbergh film. Fidel Castro (Demian Bichir) leads Cuba in a revolution. In Part 1, Che Guerva (Benicio Del Toro) and Fidel Castro lead the revolution. It is intermingled with Che's trip to the U.N. in 1965. It is in Spanish with subtitles. I would rate it as 5 out of 5 stars. (2008-R)

The Taking of Pelham 123

Denzel Washington, John Travolta, James Gandolfini -- A man takes a subway train hostage. Completely made up. More holes than a loaf of swiss cheese. Bring a gallon of milk when you come home. I would rate it as 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

The Steel Helmet

Gene Evans, James Edwards -- A Sergeant leads his men to safety in The Korean War. I would rate as 3 out of 5 stars. (1951-NR)

Carriers

Chris Pine,Christopher Meloni -- Way over-acted. I guess you can go to Yale even if you are stupid. Did I mention it was way over-acted? The golf course was in pristine condition. And why not shoot the dog? Did I mention it was way over-acted? I would rate it as 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. (2009-PG-13)

Streets of Blood

Val Kilmer, 50 Cent, Sharon Stone -- A cop and his parder take on drug lords in post-Katrina New Orleans. Horrible. If you want to see a good New Orleans police drama I'd suggest "The Big Easy" starring Dennis Quaid. I would rate it 2 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

The Baader Meinhof Complex

Moritz Bleigtreu, Martina Gedeck, Johanna Wolalek -- True story. About the Red Army Faction operating out of West Germany during the 70s. I remember The Baader-Meinhof Gang well. The only thing is that it is in German (with English subtitles). It took me six hours to watch the movie ( 2 1/2 hours length) because I had to stop and read the subtitles. But it was worth it. I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars. (2008-R)

Four Christmases

Vince Vaugn, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek -- Stellar cast - disappointing movie. It's about Vince and Reese going to meet the parents on Christmas day. Each one of the parents has a problem. I found it tough to sit through. Watch for Peter Billingsley (the guy from "The Christmas Story") in the scene at the airport. I would rate it 2 out of 5 stars. Night of the Comet

Catherine Mary Stewart, Kelli Maroney, Robert Beltran--Yay! Zombies! Not as good as "Zombieland" or "Resident Evil". It's about a girl, her sister, and, you guessed it, zombies. I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars. (1984-PG-13)

Wild Child

Natasha Richardson, Emma Roberts -- The last film that Natasha Richardson starred in. Too bad it was such a stinker! I made it through the first half hour and then switched it off! I would rate it 1 out of 5 stars. (2008-PG-13)

Wrong Turn at Tahoe

Cuba Gooding Jr., Miguel Ferrer, Harvey Keitel -- A wiseguy (Miguel Ferrer) and his underling (Cuba Gooding Jr.) knock a guy off. The knocked off guy's boss (Harvey Keitel) takes revenge. The rest is gunshots. I like Harvey Keitel so it a 4 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

Baby Blues

Colleen Porch, Ridge Canipe -- Talk about your post-partum depression. A mother of four gets depressed. You figure it out from there. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. (2008-R)

World's Greatest Dad

Robin Williams, Bobcat Goldthwait --A guy commits suicide. His father, a failed writer, ghostwrites his suicide note. Think "Death to Smoochy". I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

Funny People

Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill -- Adam Sandler plays a comedian and Seth Rogen plays his sidekick. A big too long, though. I would have cut about a half an hour from this film. More stars then the universe! I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars. (2009-UR)

The Search for John Gissing

Alan Rickman, Janeane Garofalo -- Black comedy. A lot like "The Out-of-Towners" but in London. I like Alan Rickman, but "Bottle Shock" it ain't. I would rate it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. (2001-NR)

My Sister's Keeper

Abigail Breslin, Cameron Diaz, Alex Baldwin, Joan Cusack -- An excellent movie. I would rate it as 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. (2009-PG-13)

Orphan

Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard, Isabella Fuhrman -- An orphan is adopted by a family. So many inconsistencies I can't begin to count them. Like "Psycho" without the plot, the direction, or the stars. I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

Fair Game

Gregg Henry, Trudie Styler -- A girlfriend, a boyfriend, and a black mamba. I ended up rooting for the snake.I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. (1988-R)

The Limits of Control

Isaach de Bankole, John Hurt, Bill Murray -- He either sleeps with his eyes open, or he is an insomniac. And what is up with the 2 cups of coffee? It's directed by the same guy who did "Coffee and Cigarettes" -- another loser! You don't speak Spanish, right? I would rate it 2 out of 5 stars. (2008-R)

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

Jememy Piven, Ving Rhames, James Brolin--A typical Jeremy Piven movie -- Like "Entourage" only an hour and a half long. Sophomoric and stupid. I loved it! I would rate it as 4 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

Is Anybody There?

Michael Caine, Bill Milner --Less angst-more magic. A guy, near the end of his life, teaches a kid magic. Did I mention the fact that it needed more magic? I would rate it as 3 out of 5 stars. (2008-PG-13)

Not Forgotten

Simon Baker, Paz Vega -- I certainly wish I had! The convoluted tale of a banker who has a dark secret. Awful! I would rate it as 2 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

The Ugly Truth

Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler -- think "Knocked Up", only without the humor. A television producer (Heigl) and her offbeat star (Butler). Predictable! I wouldn't rent this film again. Rate it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

Drag Me to Hell

Alison Lohman, Justin Long -- A woman goes to a bank. She can't get an extension on her loan. So she drags her loan officer to Hell. A good scare-fest! I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. (2009-NR)

The Answer Man

Jeff Daniels, Lauren Graham, Nora Dunn -- Jeff Daniels is the man who knows all the answers. Or does he? A romantic comedy. 4 out of 5 stars. (2009-R)

Will Ferrell: You're Welcome, America

Will Ferrell -- 5 minutes of Will Ferrell as George Bush is about all I can stand. An hour and a half is too long. 3 out of 5 stars. (2009-NR)

The Maiden Heist

Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman, William H. Macy, Marcia Gay Harden -- Such a fine cast - a disappointing movie. A trio of art museum guards pull a heist. I would rate it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. (2008-PG-13)
